TECHNICIAN - HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE.

Reports to:  Superintendent

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for operating and maintaining the machine issued.
• Driving to the job site.
• Inspecting heavy machinery, e.g. trucks, cranes, bulldozers, and other equipment for proper performance.
• Operating heavy machinery to undertake specific activities like earth moving, land preparation, excavation and construction works to the specified standards and specifications.
• Adjusting equipment and implements and replacing faulty parts.
• Assisting in the diagnosis of faults by reading and understanding error codes on the machines.
• Repairing damaged equipment parts.
• Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles.
• Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, blades, and side booms.
• Assisting in performing major repair works when necessary.
• Consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
• Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management.

KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma and license to operate, or diploma in auto- motive engineering, auto -mechanical engineering
• Certification as a heavy equipment mechanic.
• National license to operate the type of machine being used.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCES:

• Proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic and operator.
• Understanding of computer troubleshooting/ testing technologies.
• Demonstrable competency and ability to operate heavy machinery.
• Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment.
• Ability to work after-hours if required.
• Good communication skills.
