Job Purpose: The role holder is primarily responsible for developing and implementing both Procurement and Logistics strategies that create value addition to the business through mitigating critical supply chain risks and delivering cost savings initiatives.
The role also calls for developing and maintaining strategic supplier relationships as wells as the development and management of contracts, and contractual relationships to deliver continuous improvement in delivery of goods and services by the supply base.
This also includes providing strong Leadership and development to the Purchasing and logistics to deliver the appropriate support to meet the business objectives.
Functional Outputs/Activities per key performance area:
Strategy Development and Management
- Overall responsibility for Purchasing and Cost Estimating activities across the business
- Create and implement best practice purchasing vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance
- Ensure that purchasing strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets, which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market including Terms and conditions, supplier selection/de-selection, evaluation and rationalisation of supply chain solutions including vendor managed inventory, supplier consignments and safety stock
- Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities
- Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process.
- Develop or review and implement a robust Transport Policy and Strategy that fully contribute to the achievement of the corporate objectives.

Supplier Management
- Responsible for managing relationships and negotiating with key suppliers at a senior and strategic level in consultation with the COO.
- Negotiate contract terms with key suppliers to ensure value for money, quality standards and delivery terms with technical and operational input from stakeholders if appropriate
- Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
- Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
- Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
- Develop an overall vendor base which creates and sustains a competitive advantage utilising global market exploitation, leveraging spends and leveraging technologies
- Develop, implement and maintain a supplier relationship and evaluation process to measure effective supplier performance and compliance
- Ensure professional and consistent supplier management is applied across the supply base in line with the purchasing policy
- Work closely with Research Development to source new and alternative raw materials
People Management
- Provide leadership, coordination and coaching to the team, ensuring they are trained enabling them to deliver and succeed in their roles.
- Provide leadership to the different departmental units under control. Coach, mentor and develop direct reports and manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions.
- Lead by personal examples to guide teams in the company core values of TIICA (Teamwork, Integrity, Innovation, Customer Focus, Accountability) and embrace other best practices in the Eagle Way (Our culture).
- Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and to implement change and improvements
- Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors.
- Responsible for developing the appropriate organisational structure, resource plans to support the business objectives and customer deliverables with guidance from the COO
- Manage performance of teams and individuals through regular performance reviews in Eagle way Performance Management System (EPMS), and appropriately addressing disciplinary issues.
- Asset and Budget Management
- Implement and manage inventory management systems and processes to ensure effective visibility and controls of the raw materials and finished goods.
- Develop annual cost savings programs aligned with the corporate strategies that will impact financial results and growth plans.
- Develop, implement, and manage proper inventory control procedures to improve overall inventory accuracy.
- Investigate variances, identify underlying causes of variances, and formulate and implement corrective actions.
- Oversee implementation of effective repairs and routine maintenance of transportation
- Promoting safe work activities by conducting safety audits and attending company safety
Risk and Compliance Management
- Identify the department’s risks, their various mitigations and keep track of them in the risk
- Ensure transparent and competitive purchases for goods and services are conducted and properly documented as required, and in compliance with company guidelines.
- Ensure full compliance with both MPL’s and global standards for procurement guidelines and regulations.
- Manage relevant projects and corresponding risks with creative problem-solving and escalate as required.
- Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- A bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and/ or Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration or any other related business course.
- A post Graduate Diploma in Procurement, CIPS or ACCA
- A master’s Degree in a business-related field.
Related Minimum Experience:
- Ten years’ working experience in a business environment, 5 of which should have been at a middle level management.
- Rich knowledge in planning and management of procurement, Inventory controls and logistics.
- Extensive knowledge of managing multiple stakeholders in Supply Chain.
- Strong Negotiation
- Strong analytical and project management skills.
