Job Description

Our client a leading Fruit Farming Company seeks to fill the arole of a Crop Protection Scientist. S/He will be a fieal research based crop protection expert and will be tasked with the key role in identification of pests and diseases (diagnosis) affecting the fruits production, experimentation, and recommendation.

Roles & Responsibilites:

  • Designing the sampling/monitoring for pests and diseases and making appropriate recommendations to the Agriculture department.
  • Efficacy screening and seeking registration of new pesticides and plant growth regulators by the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB).
  • Seeking Phytosanitary certificate and Plant Import Permit (PIP) from Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS) for fresh fruits or plants materials exported and imported 
  • Advising the Agriculture Department on pesticides usage, suitability, registration status and market acceptability.
  • Management of Crop protection/Research human and finance resources to ensure efficient utilization. This includes preparation, monitoring and control of the budget
  • Supporting and supervising the establishment and follow up of actions to achieve compliance of all national and international standards which the company subscribes to.

Minimun Requirements:

  • MSc. in Crop Protection or a closely related field.
  • 5+  years of experience in field research work in crop protection
  • Substantial experience in Crop Protection regulatory systems.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of Kenya, EAC and Global pesticides regulatory system.
  • Experience in food safety management systems.
